To the Rock Covenant Church
To the Rock Covenant Church
The Rock is a place where our desire is to worship God in a real and vibrant way, to care for people through Bible teaching, prayer, small groups and fellowship, and to serve our community and the nations.
The Rock began in 2001 as a church plant in the city of Manhattan Beach by Rolling Hills Covenant Church. Throughout the history of The Rock, the church has sought to be both a place of welcome and blessing. First, by welcoming all people to find God’s salvation, love, and care. Second, blessing the local and global community by reaching out with God’s mercy and compassion. The Rock continues to be a community where God saves sinners, blesses those in need, and welcomes doubters.
This website is a great place to get an initial feel for who we are as a church. But ideally, we would like to meet you in person! Please come attend Sunday service and feel free to contact us to find out more about the Rock.
Serving Jesus and His people,
Pastor Curt
The Rock Covenant Church joins with our denomination, the Evangelical Covenant Church, in defining what we believe as follows:
"When new members join a Covenant church, they are asked two questions about belief: 'Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Savior and promise to follow him as Lord?' and 'Do you accept the Holy Scriptures, the Old and New Testaments, as the word of God and the only perfect rule for faith, doctrine, and conduct?' They are then asked if they intend to live as faithful followers of Christ and members of the church and denomination."
In addition to this affirmation, The Rock Covenant Church has developed a Teaching Statement that outlines most succinctly our church's core beliefs.
Please feel free to contact us with any further questions about what we believe and teach.

Curt returns home to the South Bay as the Senior Pastor of The Rock after 21 years away. After graduating from USC with a business degree, Curt worked in Los Angeles as a Financial Analyst for 4 years. God then called his young family to pack up everything and move to Hawaii to serve in his 1st full-time ministry capacity as a Youth Pastor. Once again, God called his growing family to uproot and move to Quincy, CA to serve as Family Pastor in a rural, mountain community. Curt & his wife, Lori, raised their 5 kids in Quincy and served Meadow Valley Community Church for 18+ years. Along the way, Curt earned his Doctorate in Educational Ministry with an emphasis in Leadership from Southern Seminary in Louisville, KY. In his off time look for Curt out on the ocean paddling, playing tennis, and trying to improve his golf game. Curt’s 25 years of ministry and life experience positions him to lead The Rock and care deeply for people in the South Bay.

Heather Buchta has worked as a director of youth ministry at both Catholic and Protestant churches. For over a decade, she taught high school English in Compton and South Central LA. When she doesn’t have her head in the latest YA novel, you will find her writing stories, private coaching soccer, tutoring SAT, or racing OCRs. In 2016, she ranked 62nd in the nation among female Spartan elite athletes, and her love for competition is only bested by her love for Jesus. She hopes to bring her contagious passion for life and for holiness into the hearts and minds of the youth of the South Bay.

Cameron Coulter (M.A. Pastoral Studies, Azusa Seminary) was born and raised in the South Bay area of Los Angeles. He grew up going to church and studying God’s word. In high school he felt that God had called him to be a youth pastor, and has worked hard to follow that calling. Prior to serving at Rock Covenant he served in student ministries in Los Angeles and Palm Desert. He blends his experience in youth ministry with our Children’s Ministry, adding layers of excitement, discipleship, and partnership with our families. He and his wife Kaitlin live in Lomita and enjoy playing games together, going to Disneyland and watching cheesy action movies.
