Who do you think of if someone were to ask you, “Who is the greatest example of evangelism in history?” Maybe Billy Graham. Or someone from the Bible like Paul, Peter, or John - the big three. Those would be great examples! This Sunday our Acts passage focuses on one of the greatest evangelists ever - Philip. He would not be on most of our short lists, but his role in Acts is huge for evangelism. In fact, his nickname is “Philip the Evangelist.” (Acts 21:8) Philip is one of the great heroes of evangelism - or as Acts calls it, witness.

In Acts 8 Philip gives us four distinct ways we can be guided in our witness. First, he is obedient to the Holy Spirit. Second, Philip loves people deeply - all people. From widows to Samaritans to an Ethiopian foreigner. Third, he uses the Bible to point people to Jesus. Finally, Philip is simply faithful throughout his life to the task at hand. From Acts 8 to 20 years later in Acts 21, Philip is consistent in his witness for Jesus.

We can learn from Philip. The four ways he guides us in witness are just as relevant today as they were in the first century early church. Let’s sit at the feet of God this Sunday and learn from Philip. May we worship with all of our strength, souls, hearts, and minds as we gather together!
