A valid question to ask during the COVID-19 global pandemic is; “God, are you with us?” It can feel like we are alone. We can by anxious, fearful, tired of the unknown, and emotionally spent. We long for comfort, peace, and belonging. With the Bible as our support, we can say with all of our hearts that God is with us, for us, and in us right now. And that will not change throughout this crisis.
Moses speaks to Israel in Deuteronomy 31:6 as they were called to enter the land filled with their enemies. “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them (enemies or coronavirus), for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” God is with us. I love it how Moses not only tells Israel that God goes with them, but that he will not leave or forsake them. They needed to hear that. We need to hear that.
Another way God encourages us is that nothing will separate us from His love. Paul, in his letter to the Romans, assures God’s people that God is there. He is not leaving. God is faithful to love us through anything. “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, (nor coronavirus) nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39) The Romans needed to hear that. We need to hear that.
I want to encourage you to be fed by God’s Word in these days. Pursue His love. Strive after comfort. Find Peace. This Sunday we will continue in Acts. I pray we would relate deeply to the early church. And I pray we would trust in God fully and completely during this time of suffering, pain, and uncertainty.
