One of the great themes of the Christmas season is joy. We sing; “Joy to the world, the Lord is come!” We see the word joy in decorations, lights, and Christmas cards. And above all we feel joy deep in our souls knowing our Savior has come.

Unfortunately we can mix up worldly happiness with true, biblical joy. What we think is joy in our lives can be taken away from us. This is actually something different from true joy. Most likely it is happiness confused for joy. Happiness is momentary and fleeting. True joy can never be taken away. True joy is found in Jesus who will never leave us or forsake us. True joy is what Christmas is all about!

This Sunday we will celebrate the 4th Sunday of Advent together focusing on the true, biblical joy of the season. I love Christmas. I especially love celebrating Christmas with church family rejoicing in Christ our Savior!

"For behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy." - Luke 1:44

Theological Word of the Week:

Logos

The Greek term for “word” by which the apostle John refers to Jesus in John 1:1. As applied to Jesus, the term implies both the Old Testament concept of the powerful, creative word of God and the Greek idea of the organizing and unifying principle of the universe.

Children's Ministry

This week Rock Kids will be digging into the story of Jesus being born in a stable, found in Luke 2:1-7. The kids will learn the Bible point "Jesus is humble, so we show humility." Humility seems to be a lost art form these days. Our culture teaches kids to have a "me, me, me" attitude. And most kids naturally focus more on getting than giving. We want to help kids see that Jesus came in a humble way even though he deserved the very best.
