I love it when people are real and authentic. It is refreshing to just know someone for who they really are. No pretense. No hypocrisy. No acting. This is probably why I love the book of Acts so much. Acts presents the early church realistically. Led powerfully and extraordinarily by the Holy Spirit - Yes. Perfect - No.
We have seen the early church in Acts shine - bold witness, strong faith, and selfless dependence. But we have seen cracks in the armor. Ananias and Sapphira attempted to deceive the church into thinking they were generous and sacrificial. In chapter 6 there is a complaint about neglect of Hellenist widows. The church shows us how they respond in both of these problems. This is how we can learn from Acts. We will never be a perfect church. But we can learn, respond, and do right based on God’s instruction and the early church’s example.
This week our passage in chapter 6 is tricky. There is a main problem we can see clearly. But there is also a hidden problem that takes some digging. Let’s dig together this Sunday at The Rock!
We are meeting outside at Manhattan Beach Pre-School for our Sunday Service at 4:30 pm. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, masks and Bibles! For a complete copy of our guidelines for re-opening CLICK HERE.
