It’s a Small World. Did you think of the classic Disneyland ride? Or maybe you thought of a situation when you encountered the same people, events, or situations in an unexpected place? How about discovering someone knows a person you also know? All of these make sense. The Bible teaches the world of Noah and his family after the flood was literally “a small world.” It was up to eight people, Noah and his wife and his sons and their wives, to populate the entire earth. The only possible way this could happen is by God’s grace, wisdom, and power.

God not only saw fit to populate the earth, He set in motion all of the languages and nations that we have today in our world. Genesis 10-11 reveals how God did this, why God worked in the way he did, and where God established the early nations. It is helpful for us today to understand that God took a single family unit and scattered them throughout the world. It was an act of judgment as well as grace. God also displays His grace in Ephesians revealing that the only way this scattered, confused world can be reunited is through our Lord Jesus Christ.

This Sunday at The Rock I will continue preaching in Genesis on the beginnings of our world. My prayer is that when we understand our beginnings we will understand why God is so central in our lives. Come discover more about our world and our God together this Sunday!

"These are the clans of the sons of Noah, according to their genealogies, in their nations, and from these nations spread abroad on the earth after the flood." - Genesis 10:32

Children's Ministry

This week Rock Kids will be digging into the story of Jesus calling Matthew to be his Friend, found in Matthew 9:9-13. The kids will learn the Bible point "Jesus is our friend, so we're good friends to others." Friendship among kids can be fickle. We want to help kids see that Jesus was a good friend even when it wasn't good for his reputation. Jesus befriended the unpopular guy. We want kids to see that Jesus wants to be their friend too.
