I thrive when I’m given a task with clear instructions and proper motivation. I thrive even more when I’m convinced what I’m doing is right, good, and profitable for people. On the flip side, when I’m asked to do something that I’m not altogether sure how to do it and I can’t see the point in doing it, I’m less likely to give it my all. Jesus knew the disciples needed clear instruction, proper motivation, and the tools to get the job done in the beginning of Acts.
Apart from Jesus’ instruction, the disciples thought their goal was to stand with Jesus in a new earthly kingdom - a restored kingdom of Israel. They were not even asking the right questions. Jesus set them straight that their chief mission was to reach the world in for Jesus. In God’s name. In the power of the Holy Spirit. This mission was clearly possible with God in charge and backing the mission with His power!
And we are a part of this legacy. The growth of the church did not stop when Acts ended. This legacy of Holy Spirit empowered mission continues with us today. We accept this responsibility in a similar way that the disciples did in Acts 1. Fearful. Confused. Intimidated. Indifferent. But when Jesus’ plan came to fruition with the empowering with the Holy Spirit in the disciples, they were equipped with power and motivated for their mission. Let us follow in their footsteps in the church today. We hear Acts with hearts ready to move. Let us continue the Holy Spirit given legacy that began with the disciples as they waited for Jesus to act!
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." - Acts 1:8

Children's Ministry
This week Rock Kids will be digging into the story of Jesus healing Jairus' daughter, found in Luke 8:40-56. The kids will learn the Bible point "Jesus is dependable, so we're dependable." Kids can be easily distracted from keeping their word. We want to help kids understand that even when there are disruptions, they can be dependable and follow through when they promise to do something.
